Chasing & Repousse is expanding to encompass Metal Forming techniques. Forming means shaping metal. There are several techniques under the metal forming umbrella including fold forming, sinking, forming, raising, chasing & repousse. These techniques allow the silversmith to create 3-dimensional metal pieces that flow dynamically into naturalistic forms, like leaves, shells, spirals & more. Forming creates strong, lightweight forms using thin metal which translates well for jewelry application.

Hammer faces should be dressed with rounded edges. If you don't have these, the club has a selection of dressed hammers. Don't worry about dressing hammers; we'll talk about it in lab.
