This is a two day lab for casting. Day 1 runs 9am to 4pm and Day 2 runs 12pm to 4pm, 11 hours total. Day 1 involves creating or refining wax models and spruing them in preparation for the investment process, which creates the flask for pouring molten metal on Day 2. Day 2 is pouring molten metal into your flask to cast your pieces, then starting to polish them. When you sign up for this lab you are signed up for two consecutive days.
Syllabus coming soon. Check back, or ask at a monthly meeting.
Supplies and tools are provided. Bring silver for the Sunday pour. Lost wax casting requires at least 50% of the molten silver to be pristine silver grain; the rest can be cleaned, solder-free silver scrap. The instructors may have silver grain for sale, but you are strongly encouraged to order silver grain from Rio Grande (or your preferred seller) before the lab. Commercial wax models are available for purchase at the lab.
